The fact that no remains of such a cult have been found so far does not warrant the conclusion that the later cult of the Heliconian Muses was entirely due to the poet's influence Pausanias IX 2g, 1 * This article has the same purpose as my notes on Th. 507-616, Mnemos. IV 24 (1971), 1-IO, viz. to form a supplement to West's commentary. I take the opportunity of correcting my interpretation of Th. 551: does not express intensity but denotes the fact that Zeus did not reveal his intentions. Cf.
