Das sich vorn fberbeugende, halbnackte Madchen sei zu erklaren als "a deprecation of extramarital sexual relations", und zu diesem moralischen Zweck sei die geflfgelte Figur mit der Rute vom romischen Maler hinzugeffgt worden. Das Ganze bilde die Kopie eines Pergamenischen, aus dem dortigen Dionysosheiligtum stammenden Originals. Letzterer Auffassung kann man vielleicht beistimmen, obwohl die geflugelte Figur nicht ohne weiteres als eine Interpolation zu betrachten ist (vgl. das Campanarelief bei Matz, Taf. 13) und an sich bestimmt der suditalischen Kunst entstammt, wie auch Matz, S. 1408 betont. Der Kopist war jedenfalls ein Eklektiker, der das Original in eigener Weise interpretierte. Durchaus verfehlt scheint es mir, das geprfgelte Madchen als eine moralische Zutat zu deuten, wenn auch der Rutenschlag sonst schwer zu verstehen bleibt. Matz erklart die Geflfgelte m.E. überzeugend als ein Geschopf bildlicher Phantasie, ein bildlicher Ausdruck fiir das eigentlich Mystische des Vorgangs.
