Moreover, it is one of those fields which seems to be of subordinate value. The only way to arouse interest in the subject is by showing that it is a fascinating one. For this reason the book has been written. It may be said that the author has succeeded in his task. His discussion of such subjects as the history of the researches into the Lucianic text of the Greek bible, the Caesarean text of the gospels, the Old Slavonic text, the Persian harmony of the gospels, reads like a detective story. This does not imply that the subjects are treated in a superficial way. On the contrary, we find an enormous mass of footnotes in which no literature of any importance has been neglected. This work will surely arouse much interest to pursue the tasks connected with investigating the text of the Greek New Testament along the lines indicated by the author. UTRECHT, Joh.
