Alles spricht somit dafiir, die Worte yapov Tov lx8£eiov mit Headlam, Blaydes und Mekler als ein selbstandiges Sophoklesfragment zu betrachten (73Ia nach Naucks, 799 a nach Pcarsons Die Tatsache, dass das Wort ixf3uwoS in den uns erhaltenen Texten sonst nicht vorkommt (weshalb Pierson ix0ue?ov in lx8»q p6v andern wollte), ist natiirlich kein Grund, es, zumal bei einem Dichter, zu beanstanden, um so weniger, da es sich ohne weiteres in die bekannte Kategorie der von Tiernamen abgeleiteten Adjektiva auf -ewç (octysto4, (?oe?o5, 6pvM)Et.o;;, aus?o5 etc., siehe Chantraine, La formation des noms en grec ancien, Paris 1933, 50 f, ) einfllgt. 1) Höchstens könnte man noch an die Möglichkeit denken, dass 'Herodian' (bzw. seine Quelle) sich in dem Verfassernamen geirrt hat, und beide Aus- drücke, die er zitiert, dem Aischylos gehören (dass aus Aischylos stammt, bezeugen Herodian µo ν . λ � ξ . 2, 35 [II 941, 2 f. L.] und Athen. 67c). Wahrscheinlicher ist aber doch wohl, dass nach dem ersten Zitat der Name des Autors ausgefallen ist, eine Flüchtigkeit, die bei den Lexikographen öfter begegnet. BUSSUM, Jac. I agree with Schoell's suspicion as to the presence of a comic compound, but would suggest that the MSS supply the true reading, viz., illic ircosalus, made up of hircosus 'goatish' and ala `armpit' : cf. TPiXyofLcX:cr;{iXÀOÇ Ar. Pax 8 1 1 , ileieren - ces to the embarrassing complaint of hircus in alis occur in Poentilits 871 ff. and Pseudolus 737 f., as well as Catullus (69, 6 and 71, T) and Horace (Epod. I2, 5).
