The date is 333/2 B. C. When we have a reasonably intelligible text, perhaps one should not attempt to emend further. But I believe it is highly probable that in fact Menander wrote To Twv Ae6, i.e. the shrine of the daughters of Leos; this might well suffer corruption at the hand of a copyist who knew nothing about them and did not understand the allusion. With this reading we should have a direct reference to the Leokorion, a spot which was undoubtedly well known as a centre of city life, instead of the more obscure shrine of Leos. In any case Knemon is saying in effect in line 173, "Do you think that this remote hill-side is the agora, and this grotto of Pan a shrine in the middle of the city ?" I).
