To the passages which I discussed in this journal (1944, pp. 223- 238) I .should like to add a few, which may be not unimportant for the text and the language of Fronto. P. 7, 20 N. aesculus et ttbies et alnus et cedrus et piceae ... ventis atque imbribus edllcantur. According to Hauler 1), the second hand makes this note to educanttir: i(n) a(lio)i: evocantur. It is remarkable that in Arators Acta apost. too there is a varia lectio evocat instead of educat (palmes fecundius edllcat uvas). But I do not think there is a reason why we should follow the m.2 in Fronto',s case. Evocare does not occur in his letters, educare is found on p. 166, 12: animalia quibus abest ars et sedulitas ,edu- candi. On both place.s the verb is used in th.e material sense: 'to rear', 'to bring up'.
