Abstract

159 BOOK REVIEWS political scientist than for the journalist. This is because for the scholar these events are related to an analysis which explains them and which they modify. In the case of Cameroon, this does mean relating politics to social analysis which is not done by Professor LeVine. The use of statistics and official policy state- ments is not enough. The methods used in this book, however conscientiously and competently lead to a dead end, they cannot adequately explain the reality of Cameroonian society. And it is important that this reality should be explained not only in order to understand Cameroon but in order that we should be able to work towards providing an explanation of anglophone and francophone post-colonial realities in other parts of West Africa.
