Until 2000 he worked as editorial director at the two larg- est Slovene publishing houses, DZS and Mladinska knjiga. In that year he left professional book publish- ing and started lecturing at the Department of Li- brary and Information Science and Book Studies at the Faculty of Arts, University of Ljubljana. Between 1990 and 2009 Kovaˇc has been involved in numerous publishing-related activities as consultant to textbook publishers in Slovenia, Serbia and Montenegro; editor of the Slovene edition of National Geographic Maga- zine ; and lecturer at various European and American universities. He has written more than 500 columns on Slovene political and cultural life in the Slovene press and is the author of two books on book history and book publishing, and.
