137 CONFERENCES AND SEMINARS 1. Conference on "Development in Southeast Asia: Issues and Dilemmas". This was an Inaugural Conference held in conjunc- tion with the Academic Conference on development in South- east Asia; Issues and Dilemmas" from 26-29 October 1971 at Hong Kong. At this Conference, the Southeast Asian Social Science Association was formed with Professor S.S. Hsueh of . the Chinese University of Hong Kong being elected its first president. He is supported by a council consisting of two elec- ted members from among the delegates of each of the participa- ting countries in Southeast Asia.
