This is the last and finest book by the sadly missed Gary McGee, which crowns his many achievements as one of the most significant historians of Pentecostalism in recent years. I have been greatly privileged by knowing Gary personally and having several fruitful debates with him, including his reading of the first manuscript of my 2007 book. Gary has left the world a substantial memorial of his scholarship that will endure for many years to come — this is indeed Gary’s magnum opus as Byron Klaus observes in the foreword (xv). It is obviously the result of many years of meticulous and thorough research, with almost a hundred pages of endnotes with references to a wide range of original literature, including hard-to-access documents and over a hundred different periodicals — a treasure trove for researchers on Pentecostal and evangelical history.
