Parsons, Acts (Grand Rapids: Baker Academic, 2008). xxv + 438 pp., $27.99, paper. Mikeal Parsons’s volume on Acts is a recent release in the Paideia Commentary Series of which Parsons and Charles H. Talbert are general editors. Parsons is a well-known Acts scholar who has studied the book for more than twenty-fi ve years. His own translation published with Marty Culy, Acts: A Handbook on the Greek Text (Baylor: Baylor University Press, 2003), is used for the text. The commentary follows the format adopted for all vol- umes in the series — a readable type face, helpful sidebars, APA in-text notes, illustrations, and charts. The commentary does not proceed verse by verse but instead is based on rhe- torical units. Each unit is explored from three angles: (1) introductory matters; (2) tracing the train of thought/narrative/rhetorical flow; and (3) theological issues raised by the text that are of interest to contemporary Christians. Th e commentary opens with a twenty-page discussion of introductory matters. Author- ship issues are limited to nine lines, while Luke and rhetoric receive two pages. Parsons concludes that Luke published Acts around AD 100-120, twenty http://www.deepdyve.com/assets/images/DeepDyve-Logo-lg.png Pneuma Brill
