I N T R O D U C T I O N Welcome to the second issue of 2003. Our first article is Istilha - q and its Role in Islamic Law, by Dr M. S. Sujimon. Personal status issues affect deeply the lives of those involved, and additional research and writing on such areas is always welcome. Claims to paternity, disputes arising out of the claims of a man to a child, as father, and indeed claims by a child to know of and be recognised by his father, are important factors that touch upon the family. This article is well-researched, drawing on different writers and sources and rendering a comprehensive description of the subject based on the various schools. Dr Sami Al-Deraiei, from the Faculty of Law, Kuwait University, has contributed this issue’s article in French, on La Notion d’Accident de la Circulation: E Â tude de Droit FrancË ais et de Droit Koweitien.
