Born in Malaysia from Chinese immigrant parents, Yong is the most articulate theologian today in the Pentecostal world. Even though he is still relatively young with many years ahead of him to keep developing his theology of religions, Hospitality and the Other is the best of this three books on the topic, the other two being Discerning the Spirit(s): A Pentecostal- Charismatic Contribution to Christian Th eology of Religions (2000) and Beyond the Impasse: Toward a Pneumatological Th eology of Religions (2003) . Hospitality and the Other diff ers from other books on the theology of religions because it engages the Christian practice of hospitality as a missional alternative that does not favor or negate any of the existing frame- works to understand the religious other. In the fi rst chapter, Yong presents religious encounters in Sri Lanka, Nigeria, and the United States as case studies.
