While the critical edition of Erasmus' Opera Omnia (ASD) and the English translation of his works (Toronto) are steadily proceeding, literature on Erasmus continues to grow at a rapid rate. His works are a 'mer à boire', and the impact of his spirit on contemporaries and posterity presents virtually unlimited possibi- lities for variations on the theme 'Erasmus and ...'. Especially commemorations of his year of birth and death occasion a flood of essays.
