Box 5050, Saint John, New Brunswick, Canada E2L 4L5 Although widely distributed in the worlds oceans, the parasitic copepod, Echthrogaleus coleoptratus (Guérin-Méneville, 1837) is rarely common (Hewitt, 1967, 1979; Raibaut et al., 1998; Luque & Taveres, 2007) and little has been re- corded concerning its natural history. Hosts include about 12 species of sharks, most frequently Carcharodon carcharias (Linnaeus, 1758), Lamna nasus (Bon- naterre, 1788), and Prionace glauca (Linnaeus, 1758) (cf. Hewitt, 1967, 1972, 1979; Cressey & Lachner, 1970; Rokicki & Bychawaska, 1991; Henderson, 2002b; Benz et al., 2003; Luque & Tavares, 2007). The single report of E. coleoptratus ec- toparasitic on a teleost, Mola mola (Linnaeus, 1758) (cf. Dollfus, 1946) appears to be
