GUARDIOLA Departamento de Biologia Vegetal, Universidad Politecnica, 46020 Valencia, Spain As in all plants, in Citrus there are three factors which detennine the final yield: (i) the number of flowers fonned, (ii) the percentage of fruit set, and (iii) the size ultimately reached by the fruits. Each of these factors is subject to complex regulation, involving honnonal and nutritional aspects, and the three corresponding developmental stages are interrelated, either directly or through their influence on the general status of the tr>..e. The relationships between these factors have been summarized in a fruiting model of Citrus (Goldschmidt & Monselise, 1977), and the regulation of both flow ering and fruit set has been recently reviewed (Monselise, 1985, 1986). Most of the data available so far refer to shy bearing or alternate bearing cultivars, and considerably less attention has been paid to regular bearing trees. Identification of the factors that limit the different developmental stages of fruiting in regular bearing trees may help, however, to optimize yields. In this paper, we
