Publisher Tools

The DeepDyve Index enables knowledge workers to discover answers to their questions within the full text of hundreds of millions of pages of scholarly publications and other high-quality content.

Participating publishers benefit from increased "findability" and traffic to their content. DeepDyve's online tools for publishers include a free website (www.deepdyve.com) where users can search and discover a publisher's article and see the first page or abstract through DeepDyve's Viewer.

Use and Display of Content

DeepDyve displays the first page of each article through its proprietary, easy-to-use viewer.

If the article is restricted and the user wishes to see beyond the first page, the user has the opportunity to "rent" the article. A user is able to only view the full-text of the article via the DeepDyve Viewer.

For $0.99, the user is able to view the full-text of the article for up to 24 hours. Alternatively, the DeepDyve user can sign up for a monthly plan. The Silver Plan ($9.99 / mo.) entitles the user to rent up to 20 articles per month with articles expiring after 7 days. The Gold Plan ($19.99 / mo.) allows the user to rent an unlimited number of articles without expiration. All rental revenues are shared with publishers.

If the user wishes to purchase or download the full article, DeepDyve will link the user directly to the article on the publishers' site.

Access to Content

Making the content discoverable through DeepDyve's Publisher Tools requires that DeepDyve gain access to the full text of every article, even though only limited portions are displayed to users (see above). DeepDyve supports several methods for acquiring content at no cost or at minimum cost to the publisher. Nearly any format which includes full text is acceptable, including XML, HTML, and PDF.

One common method is to allow DeepDyve to set up an automated crawl of the publisher’s website, although with a large archive this can be slow and tedious. Alternatively, where a publisher has a backfile or archive already compiled, FTP transmission, CD Rom or other physical media are welcome.

Benefits

The benefits to publishers of working with DeepDyve are many:

  • DeepDyve's Publisher Tools will introduce publishers’ content to a new audience and will drive additional web traffic to publishers' websites. More people renting articles will lead to more people purchasing if they like what they read. This will lead to increased sales of content to an untapped market.
  • One-stop shop for research accelerates the discovery of related research across disciplines, delivering new and more qualified traffic to publishers.
  • DeepDyve's easy to implement technology supports publishers’ current web access and ecommerce options.
